My love for flowers goes back to when I was a little girl. My abuelita, we called her mom, had a beautiful garden in our backyard. I was a little obsessed with it, especially the roses! I have fond memories of helping her water the flowers, lay out the special fertilizer, and cut flowers to display in the many, many vases she had in the house. Her garden was her pride and joy!
When I got my hands on a copy of The Flower Chef by Carly Cylinder, my heart ached because it made me miss my grandma so much. She lost her battle with cancer in January of 2000. Since then, I tried hard to keep her garden going but failed. Carly, however, inspired me deeply.
Her love for flowers shines in the book. You can see that simply by looking at her smile on the front cover. You can feel it through the words. The gorgeous arrangements throughout the book took my breath away. On page 72, Carly shares how to make a “Thinking of You” arrangement and it’s one that I could see in my grandma’s living room were she still around.
Each floral “recipe” in the book comes complete with prep and cook times, season, difficulty level, cost, ingredients, and instructions. There’s also helpful tips throughout with lots of pictures! Mom isn’t around anymore to show me, but I’m learning from Carly to bring my grandma’s love for flowers back to life. I’m even working with my cousin’s to plant a garden of my own.
I’m actually really excited about it! My love for flowers runs deep, I even created a Pinterest board filled with floral arrangements that caught my eye. Since Carly’s book caters to all readers from beginners to professionals, I can use it over and over again to keep learning for years to come. I knew I was going to truly enjoy this book with a unique approach to teaching a growing trend, and I highly recommend it!
